Ghana’s selection as the host for the 2025 Africa Oil Week (AOW), the continent’s largest energy event focused on upstream development and finance, presents significant opportunities and implications for the country’s energy industry. Scheduled from September 15th to 18th at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra, the event will attract key stakeholders, including Ministers, National Oil Companies (NOCs), regulators, and global investors. Here’s what it means for Ghana’s energy sector and its potential to attract Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs):
AOW 2025 will create a platform to unlock investments and drive strategic energy partnerships, essential for accelerating production and leveraging technology to decarbonize Ghana’s upstream sector.
Ghana will use this stage to outline progressive regulations, incentives, and policies aimed at positioning the country as one of the most competitive upstream destinations in Africa.
Also, the event will showcase new licensing opportunities, particularly in the Keta and Voltarian basins, attracting international operators interested in exploring new reserves.
Government is expected to present policies designed to attract international investments by ensuring a favourable business environment, thus cushioning taxes and other levies within the energy supply value chain.

John Abdulai Jinapor, Ghana’s Minister for Energy and Green Transition, has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring Africa maximizes its natural resources for socio-economic transformation and energy security.
“Africa must take charge of its energy future. We are at a pivotal moment where the global energy landscape is shifting rapidly, and we must work together to secure investment, accelerate production, and leverage technology to decarbonise our upstream sector. Ghana is proud to host AOW 2025, where we will lead discussions on utilising our vast natural resources, strengthening upstream infrastructure, and showcasing new licensing opportunities. This event will be a turning point for Africa’s oil and gas sector, and we look forward to welcoming the global community to Accra this September.” He underscored
By unveiling ambitious production targets aimed at significantly increasing daily oil output, Ghana will position itself as a premier destination for international oil and gas operators.

Paul Sinclair, CEO of AOW, was enthusiastic that the event will harness a high level of government and private sector participation and collaboration.
“We are thrilled by the overwhelming support from the Ghanaian government in hosting Ministers, NOCs, and global investors at AOW 2025. Africa is becoming an increasingly
attractive destination for global energy investment, and 2025 is shaping up to be a pivotal moment for the continent’s upstream sector. Ghana is poised to take centre stage in this global conversation at AOW in Accra from 15th – 18th September.” He noted.
The event is positioned as a premier platform where global private sector leaders, Pan-African regulators, and NOCs can strike deals, potentially leading to substantial FDIs in Ghana’s energy industry.
AOW 2025 is not just a high-profile event; it is a strategic move for Ghana to capitalize on the global energy transition and attract crucial investments. By showcasing competitive regulations and vast natural resources, Ghana could significantly enhance its energy sector’s capacity, reduce fiscal pressures, and bolster economic growth. The event is poised to be a turning point for Ghana’s upstream industry, potentially redefining its position in Africa’s energy landscape.
This strategic opportunity underscores Ghana’s commitment to leveraging its natural resources for socio-economic transformation while navigating the continent’s evolving energy dynamics.
