Ghana made a remarkable appearance at the Intra-African Coffee and Chocolate Trade Week, held from November 27-29, 2024, in Nairobi, Kenya.
The event, which brought together stakeholders from 26 countries, served as a premier platform for connecting Africa’s coffee and cocoa value chains, fostering market access, innovation, and collaboration.
Led by Osafohene Dr. Afua Asabea Asare I, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), Ghana showcased its premium organic cocoa and coffee products, attracting buyers from across Africa and beyond. The nation’s exhibits highlighted the superior quality and sustainability of its products, cementing its position as a leader in the industry.
During a high-profile panel discussion themed “Leveraging the AfCFTA to Boost Intra-African Coffee and Cocoa Trade,” Dr. Asare emphasized the critical role of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in driving growth in Africa’s coffee and cocoa sectors.

She highlighted Ghana’s success in cocoa production as a model for sustainable development, while also advocating for value addition and empowering women and youth in agriculture.
According to a statement from the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, Ghana’s participation was part of broader efforts to promote the AfCFTA protocol. GEPA has undertaken nationwide awareness campaigns across all 16 regions of Ghana, implemented the National Export Strategy, and established a fulfillment center in Kenya to retail and distribute high-quality Ghanaian products in the East African market.
The event also provided an opportunity for Ghanaian companies such as Naha Organics, Kawa Moka, Top Creativity, Forward Thinkers Farm, and the Ghana Trade House to showcase their innovative products. These brands stood out for their creativity and commitment to quality, drawing interest from investors and business partners.
Dr. Asare further highlighted GEPA’s dedication to promoting Made-in-Ghana products and building lasting trade partnerships. She described events like the Coffee and Chocolate Trade Week as vital for strengthening intra-African trade ties and advancing economic development under the AfCFTA framework.
Ghana’s participation not only bolstered its global reputation in the cocoa and coffee industries but also demonstrated the country’s commitment to leveraging trade as a tool for sustainable economic growth.
