The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) experienced a lively trading session on Tuesday, with the main index posting a slight gain while individual stocks showed a mix of rises and falls.
The GSE Composite Index (GSE-CI) inched up 0.13 points to close at 7,416.16, while the Financial Stocks Index (GSE-FSI) dipped 1.08 points to 3,419.85. Year-to-date, the GSE-CI has climbed 51.71%, with the financial index up 43.64%, reflecting continued investor participation across the market.
Trading activity picked up significantly, with 840,754 shares exchanged, nearly double Monday’s 421,632, though the total value traded fell to GH¢904,763, suggesting most activity was concentrated in smaller, lower-priced stocks. Market capitalization dipped slightly to GH¢151.1 billion.
On the winners’ side, Benso Palm Plantation PLC (BOPP) gained GH¢0.09, closing at GH¢34.35, while Ghana Oil Company PLC (GOIL) added GH¢0.02 to finish at GH¢2.20. Enterprise Group PLC (EGL) and Clydestone Ghana (CLYD) recorded smaller gains of GH¢0.01 each.
Meanwhile, Cal Bank PLC (CAL) fell GH¢0.01 to GH¢0.50, and NewGold (GLD) experienced the largest drop, sliding GH¢8.04 to close at GH¢379, reflecting lower investor activity in the precious metal-backed stock.
Tuesday’s session highlighted a market with active trading across multiple sectors, where high-value blue-chip shares continued to attract attention, while lower-priced and volatile stocks dominated volume.
