Ghana is seeking to deepen trade and investment ties with the United Kingdom and China as government pushes to restore investor confidence and attract foreign capital into key sectors including manufacturing and infrastructure.
Trade Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare held separate meetings with the UK High Commissioner to Ghana, Christian Rogg, and China’s Ambassador to Ghana, Cong Song, to discuss bilateral trade opportunities and upcoming investment initiatives.
The discussions with the UK delegation focused on preparations for the Ghana-UK Investment Summit scheduled for June 1-2 in London. The summit, themed “The Reset Agenda: Restoring Investor Confidence to Unlock Opportunities and Shared Prosperity,” is expected to bring together government officials and private sector leaders to discuss trade, finance, and infrastructure opportunities.

President John Dramani Mahama is expected to attend the summit, which will also include bilateral meetings, private sector engagements and the signing of potential partnership agreements.
Rogg said the UK is committed to working closely with Ghanaian authorities to ensure a successful summit and strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.
Ofosu-Adjare described the UK as one of Ghana’s largest trading partners and urged British companies to establish manufacturing operations in the West African nation rather than relying solely on imports.
She also disclosed plans by government to establish three garment factories this year as part of efforts to create jobs and expand local industrial capacity.
In a separate meeting, the minister discussed implementation of China’s zero-tariff agreement with Ambassador Song, who also invited her to participate in the November 2026 Shanghai Import and Export Exhibition.

“This Ministry is going to be your home. China is very important to us. I will be traveling to China this Thursday to attract at least 20 investors into Ghana. Chinese companies should also consider sourcing more products from Ghana to help reduce the trade deficit,” Ofosu-Adjare said.
She added that government would ensure effective implementation of the zero-tariff arrangement as part of efforts to strengthen trade relations with China.
