Ghana’s Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has formalised a strategic partnership with Sentuo Group Limited aimed at accelerating agro-industrial transformation and strengthening value addition across the agricultural sector.
The agreement, sealed through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Ministry in Accra, is expected to drive “large-scale agro-processing” while advancing efforts toward “enhanced value addition” to agricultural produce. The collaboration will also support the establishment of domestic fertiliser manufacturing capacity, a move seen as critical to improving input accessibility and reducing import dependence.
The initiative forms part of the development agenda of President John Dramani Mahama, particularly efforts aimed at “accelerating agricultural industrialisation” and repositioning the sector as a key driver of economic growth.
Opoku emphasized that the partnership reflects a long-term strategy to restructure Ghana’s agricultural economy, shifting from its traditional role as an exporter of raw commodities to what he described as a “robust, integrated agro-industrial economy.” The transition, he noted, is intended to deepen domestic production linkages, expand processing capacity, and improve overall sector competitiveness.
The agreement reflects a growing emphasis on industrial agriculture and value chain development, as government seeks to enhance productivity while addressing structural constraints within the sector. The focus on fertiliser production, in particular, is expected to contribute to input security and support yield improvements among farmers.
