Ghana has received a donation of 2,000 metric tons of fertilizer from the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco, with officials describing the support as a reinforcement of agricultural cooperation and efforts to strengthen food security.
The consignment, officially presented at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, forms part of ongoing bilateral support to improve agricultural productivity and stabilising input supply for farmers amid rising global fertiliser costs.
Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), receiving the shipment, described the support as a “timely intervention” aligned with Ghana’s food security priorities, while noting that it reflects “cordial relations” between Accra and Rabat. He added that the donation builds on previous assistance from Morocco and forms part of a broader framework of cooperation that includes discussions on potential support for local fertiliser production capacity.
He further indicated that bilateral engagement between both countries is expanding beyond agriculture into areas such as visa facilitation and sports development, aimed at strengthening “people-to-people exchanges” and widening economic and social cooperation.
The Moroccan Ambassador to Ghana, Imane Ouaadil, stated that the latest consignment represents the second tranche of fertilizer support to Ghana, describing it as evidence of “longstanding friendship and cooperation” between both states. She noted that Morocco remains committed to agricultural development across Africa, stressing that such support is intended to enhance productivity and strengthen resilience within farming systems.

She further highlighted that the intervention is expected to help mitigate external pressures, including “climate variability,” supply chain disruptions, and elevated input prices, which continue to affect agricultural production across the region. She also referenced the role of OCP Africa in facilitating coordination and technical support to improve farmer access and capacity building within the sector.
The Chief Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Khadijah Iddrisu, indicated that the donation reflects the outcome of sustained diplomatic engagement between both countries and demonstrates how bilateral cooperation is translating into tangible sectoral support. She noted that the fertiliser supply will contribute to ongoing national efforts to improve agricultural output and strengthen food security frameworks, while expressing appreciation for Morocco’s continued partnership.
