Ghana and Nicaragua have signed two landmark agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and creating new avenues for trade and investment.
The Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations and a Framework Cooperation Agreement were signed following a high-level meeting between Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Denis Moncada Colindres, Minister Advisor to the Co-Presidents of Nicaragua for International Policy and Affairs, on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly.

Talks centered on broadening collaboration in areas with economic potential, including agriculture, production, tourism, education, and youth development. Both governments highlighted opportunities for joint ventures and exchanges in sectors such as energy, cultural industries, and sports.
Ablakwa underscored the importance of visa facilitation and scholarships as enablers of business mobility and skills development, while Moncada Colindres emphasized Nicaragua’s focus on poverty reduction, women’s leadership, energy development, and socio-economic transformation.

The agreements are expected to provide a structured platform for expanding commercial ties. The framework will be expected to help unlock cooperation in agribusiness, trade finance, and investment projects that could benefit both economies.
The bilateral meeting also recalled the historical ties between the late Ghanaian president Jerry John Rawlings and Nicaraguan president Daniel Ortega, underscoring a longstanding friendship now being advanced with a renewed economic agenda.
