Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on voters to choose a candidate focused on upgrading the country and building on its existing achievements. Speaking to journalists in Accra on Sunday, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that “Ghana needs an upgrade, not a reset” and pledged to work towards the complete transformation of the economy. His comment is in reference to the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s call for the country to be reset for development.
While acknowledging the economic downturns in 2020 and 2022, Dr. Bawumia noted that the government has implemented measures to support economic recovery. He committed to bringing 2,000 megawatts of solar power online within the first four years if elected in December. He highlighted the importance of moving towards renewable energy sources to diversify Ghana’s energy mix, reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels, stabilize energy costs, and improve energy security.

Dr. Bawumia also touched on the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs), announcing plans to import about 100 electric buses to reduce the country’s carbon footprint and contribute to global climate change efforts. He added that the Metro Mass Transit company is working to provide additional charging stations for these EVs to minimize congestion at charging points
