Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire have agreed to deepen cooperation to address border trade challenges following a bilateral meeting held on the sidelines of the 14th World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conference in Yaoundé.
The meeting, led by Ghana’s Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, focused on improving compliance at shared borders, particularly the payment of duties, taxes, and other statutory charges, as well as broader trade facilitation issues affecting cross-border operations.
Both countries agreed to continue discussions through a structured technical process aimed at finding practical and lasting solutions. Ghana will constitute a technical delegation and communicate proposed dates for an initial follow-up meeting.
The meeting reflects Ghana’s commitment to advancing regional trade integration and strengthening border administration in line with ECOWAS and African Continental Free Trade Area priorities.
The expected outcome is more coordinated cooperation between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire to reduce trade barriers and improve bilateral trade flows.
