-After AFCON Qualification Debacle
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has disbanded the Black Stars Management Committee following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
The decision, announced during an Executive Council meeting this week, is part of a broader effort to revamp the national team structure after a disappointing campaign.
The FA expressed appreciation for the contributions of the outgoing committee members but emphasized the urgent need for restructuring to restore the team’s competitive edge.
It has also scheduled a meeting with Black Stars head coach Otto Addo on November 27 to review his technical report and evaluate his staff’s performance since his reappointment in March 2024. Otto Addo’s tenure has faced scrutiny following a string of lacklustre performances, culminating in Ghana’s first absence from the AFCON tournament since 2004.
While some advocate for patience, others have called for Addo’s removal, pointing to the team’s inability to secure a single victory during the qualifiers.
The GFA has apologized to fans for the team’s failure and reaffirmed its commitment to rebuilding the Black Stars in preparation for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Ghana currently sits joint-top of Group I in the qualifiers, offering a glimmer of hope for redemption.
Further announcements regarding the restructuring and Addo’s future with the team are expected following the November 27 discussion.
