The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), Margaret Ansei, has urged Ghana’s youth to equip themselves with critical skills, build resilience, and actively shape the country’s economic future.
In a statement marking International Youth Day 2025 celebrated with the theme “Voice to Impact: Youth Building Sustainable and Inclusive Futures” Ms. Ansei described young people as a “vital driving force in national development,” with the potential to transform Ghana’s economic landscape if adequately empowered.
She cautioned, however, that the rising tide of drug abuse threatens to derail this potential, warning that it “undermines collective progress” and jeopardises the future of the nation.
“The role of young people in driving MSMEs and national development is irreplaceable,” she emphasised, calling on them to remain focused, empowered, and committed to shaping “a brighter Ghana.” She stressed the importance of skills acquisition, especially in advancing micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), which remain key engines of job creation and innovation.
Her call comes at a time when government policy increasingly prioritises youth inclusion in economic growth strategies, with entrepreneurship, innovation, and vocational training earmarked as critical levers for long-term prosperity.
International Youth Day, observed globally on August 12, serves as a platform to highlight the contributions of young people to sustainable development while confronting the challenges they face.
