After the overwhelming turnout at El-Wak Stadium, which revealed the hopes and desperation of tens of thousands of young Ghanaians chasing limited opportunities, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) is set to resume its 2025/2026 recruitment exercise in Greater Accra on 20 November 2025.
On 12 November, more than 60,000 applicants showed up for just 4,000 positions. Only about 30,000 met the minimum qualifications, meaning fifteen hopefuls were competing for each vacancy. For many, it was more than a recruitment exercise; it was a chance to step into a future they’ve been preparing for years.
In a release, the GAF outlined measures to make the process safer and more organized. Screening will take place at eight sub-centres across five locations:
- El-Wak Stadium – 2 centres
- Nicholson Park, Burma Camp – 2 centres
- Air Force Base, Burma Camp – 1 centre
- Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Teshie – 2 centres
- Eastern Naval Command, Tema – 1 centre
Qualified applicants will receive SMS notifications detailing their reporting dates and batches. The GAF stressed, “Applicants are strongly advised to strictly adhere to these instructions,” while families are asked to wait at home to avoid crowding.
A Board of Inquiry is investigating the previous stampede, and the entire Greater Accra recruitment team has been replaced. Commodore FA Nyarko, one of the new leaders, assured the public, “Anyone found culpable from the Inquiry will be sanctioned accordingly.”
GAF expressed its heartfelt sympathy to affected families and emphasized that the resumed recruitment aims to provide every young Ghanaian a fair, safe, and orderly chance to serve.
