Foreign companies operating in Ghana reinvested 95.4% of the country’s US$1.91 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) recorded in 2025, highlighting the continued commitment of existing investors to their Ghanaian operations.
The figure, contained in the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority’s (GIPA) 2025 Investment Report, shows that the bulk of FDI recorded in Ghana’s balance of payments came from reinvested earnings rather than fresh capital from foreign investors.
That means the 2025 investment recovery was not driven only by new foreign investors bringing capital into Ghana. Companies already operating in the country were also retaining and putting a significant share of their earnings back into their businesses.
GIPA described the high level of reinvestment as an indication of strong investor retention and confidence, coming after a period of significant macroeconomic adjustment.
The development forms part of a broader recovery in Ghana’s investment activity. GIPA recorded US$2.62 billion in investment inflows across 245 new projects and existing companies in 2025, compared with US$651.7 million in 2024.
The balance-of-payments figure, however, provides a different measure of the investment recovery and highlights the role of existing foreign businesses in sustaining capital flows into the economy.
GIPA attributed the improvement in investment activity to progress towards macroeconomic stability, renewed investor engagement and deeper investment relationships across Asia, Europe and Africa.
The authority also recorded 181 new projects valued at US$1.4 billion, showing that the recovery was supported by both new investments and continued expansion by companies already established in Ghana.
GIPA said the outlook for investment remains positive, with opportunities expected to expand in agro-processing, manufacturing, digital services and value-added exports as economic conditions continue to improve.
The high proportion of reinvested earnings therefore provides a strong indication that foreign companies already operating in Ghana continued to commit capital to the market in 2025, alongside the new projects entering the investment pipeline.
