Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson says Ghana is confident of growing faster than the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) 5.7% growth projection for 2026, following an upward revision of the Fund’s outlook for the economy.
The IMF raised its forecast from 4.6% in April to 5.7%, an increase of 1.1 percentage points.
Reacting to the revision, Dr Forson said the government expected the economy to outperform the projection, citing its commitment to fiscal discipline and ongoing reforms.
“The IMF has upgraded Ghana’s 2026 growth forecast from 4.6% to 5.7%. We are confident we will exceed that projection,” he said.
The minister made the remarks after meeting Zeine Zeidane, Director of the IMF’s African Department, on the sidelines of the IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Thailand.
Dr Forson said he had reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the policies supporting the country’s economic recovery.
“In Bangkok, I met with the IMF’s African Department Director, Zeine Zeidane, and reaffirmed our commitment to the fiscal credibility, discipline and bold reforms powering Ghana’s economic turnaround,” he said.
The IMF’s revised projection is also above the government’s 2026 growth target of 4.8%, suggesting the Fund expects the economy to expand faster than the government’s initial estimate.
Whether Ghana can exceed the IMF’s projection will depend on economic performance over the remainder of the year and the extent to which the government’s fiscal measures and reforms support sustained growth.
