The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has tasked the leadership of the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to embrace innovation and prioritize fiscal discipline to boost Ghana’s economic recovery efforts.
Speaking during a meeting with these key agencies under his supervision, Dr. Forson underscored their critical role in ensuring Ghana’s financial stability and development. He urged them to exceed expectations by delivering results that would have a direct impact on the economy and the lives of Ghanaians.
He highlighted the importance of modernizing systems and adopting innovative methods to enhance efficiency in revenue collection and public financial management. Dr. Forson also emphasized the need for accountability in financial governance to rebuild public trust and confidence.
As Finance Minister, Dr. Forson has laid out ambitious goals for his tenure. During his vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee, he pledged to bring inflation down to single digits by implementing robust fiscal measures and controlling government spending.
He also stressed the need to cut unnecessary expenditures and reduce Ghana’s reliance on borrowing.
In addition, Dr. Forson announced plans to reintroduce road tolls as part of the government’s broader policy agenda to generate revenue and support infrastructure development.
With the CAGD and GRA at the heart of Ghana’s financial management, their performance will be crucial to achieving these goals and ensuring a stable and sustainable economic future for the country.
