Fnance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, says the country’s oil palm industry holds vast potential to create sustainable jobs, boost rural incomes, and drive economic transformation.
The oil palm sector employs thousands across the value chain and remains one of Ghana’s most promising agricultural industries, contributing significantly to rural livelihoods and agro-industrial exports.

During a working visit to the Benso Oil Palm Plantation (BOPP) at Adum Abanso in the Western Region, Dr. Forson commended the management, smallholder farmers, and workers for their contribution to Ghana’s industrial growth. “Benso Oil Palm Plantation is a perfect example of how strategic investment in oil palm can create thousands of jobs and transform lives,” he said. “The dedication and professionalism I witnessed here give me great confidence that renewed investment in this sector is worth every effort.”
He revealed that government is finalising a comprehensive Oil Palm Plantation Policy aimed at expanding cultivation, strengthening processing capacity, and creating thousands of new jobs nationwide. The policy, he said, will enhance value addition and position agriculture as a central pillar of Ghana’s next phase of growth.

Dr. Forson also praised BOPP’s inclusive business model, which integrates smallholder farmers into its production chain, noting that it aligns with government’s vision of using agriculture to promote inclusive and sustainable development.
The visit underscores government’s renewed focus on leveraging agriculture and agro-industry to create employment, reduce import dependence, and build resilience in Ghana’s economy.
