Ethiopian Electric Utility (EEU) has entered into a strategic colocation partnership with East Africa–based data centre operator Wingu Africa, marking a major advancement in the utility’s ongoing digital transformation.
Under the agreement, EEU has deployed its critical digital infrastructure inside Wingu Africa’s Tier III-certified data centre in Addis Ababa, enabling higher levels of security, uptime, and operational efficiency.
The installation was completed and fully activated without disruption, ensuring that EEU’s digital systems are now hosted within a more resilient and modern environment.
The move is expected to strengthen the reliability of electricity services delivered to millions of Ethiopians, as secure and high-availability data centres become increasingly essential to utility operations.
EEU CIO Michael Debela said the partnership reflects the institution’s broader mission to modernise energy service delivery. “By strengthening the resilience of our digital infrastructure, we are improving the reliability of our operations and laying the foundation for smarter energy services,” he noted.
Wingu Africa Deputy CEO and Co-founder Demos Kyriacou said the company is honoured to support EEU at a crucial moment in the country’s digital and energy evolution. He emphasized that the Tier III environment offers the highest levels of security, efficiency, and uptime necessary for mission-critical systems.
The collaboration underscores the deeper alignment emerging between Ethiopia’s energy and technology sectors, highlighting shared goals of innovation, resilience, and improved service delivery.
