In a profession where seniority has traditionally defined recognition, the elevation of Surveyor Eric Joseph Eduam as a Fellow of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors (GhIS) is quietly reshaping long-held assumptions about leadership in Ghana’s built environment.
At a time when young professionals often struggle for space and voice, Eduam’s induction stands as a powerful statement: impact, integrity and innovation now carry as much weight as years of service.
Inducted at the 21st Surveyors Week and 57th Annual General Meeting, Eduam, Chief Executive Officer of WEL Group Limited joins the Fellowship ranks as one of the youngest professionals to attain the honour.
Beyond the ceremonial significance, his elevation reflects a career defined by measurable contribution to national development and a growing belief within the profession that excellence, not age, should be the benchmark.
Reflecting on the honour during an interview , Eduam described it as both humbling and demanding:
“This is not just a professional milestone for me; it is a national responsibility,” he said.
He pointed out that the Fellowship represents more than personal achievement, noting that the Ghana Institution of Surveyors remains the custodian of standards, ethics, and professional excellence in the built environment.
“To be inducted as one of the youngest Fellows signals that competence, integrity, innovation and impact now matter more than age,” he added.

Leadership and Impact Reflected in the Citation
Eduam’s interview responses are reinforced by the citation presented to him during the induction, which underlined the depth of his professional contributions. The citation notes that:
“With over fourteen years of professional experience, Surveyor Eduam has practised extensively in Quantity Surveying, commercial management, and project management. He is the Chief Executive Officer of WEL Group, overseeing three subsidiary companies operating in construction, project management consultancy, and commercial cleaning services. Under his leadership, the Group has successfully delivered and supervised major public and private sector projects across healthcare, housing, road infrastructure, and administrative facilities.”
The citation also emphasised his role in national development:
“Since 2018, he has played a leading role in providing technical consultancy services for high-impact housing schemes and assignments for various government agencies in Ghana.”
This recognition aligns with Eduam’s own reflections on professionalism and service.
“Professionalism, intellectual depth and a transformational mindset can fast-track our impact,” he said, noting that Ghana’s institutions are ready for capable, ethical, and forward-thinking leadership.
Global Recognition and Academic Contributions
Eduam’s profile extends beyond local practice. The citation highlighted his international recognition, stating:
“In recognition of his professional excellence and global impact, he was honoured with the Forty Under Forty Global Award in Construction Project Management, presented in Dubai in April 2025.”
He is also actively involved in knowledge creation and capacity building. As the citation explains:
“His contribution to knowledge creation and professional capacity building is significant. He serves as an Adjunct Lecturer at the School of Architecture and Design, within the Real Estate discipline, teaching Construction Technology, Introduction to Quantity Surveying, and Construction Works Procurement. He is also a regular speaker and panellist at construction and real estate conferences and seminars.”
Eduam, a doctoral candidate researching artificial intelligence in construction, highlighted the importance of innovation in shaping the sector:
“AI will redefine efficiency, risk management and sustainability across the built environment,” he said.

A Generational Shift in the Profession
Eduam’s induction also signals a generational shift in Ghana’s built environment profession, where merit and measurable impact increasingly outweigh age or tenure. The citation reinforces this point:
“Notably, Surv. Eric Eduam is among the youngest professionals since the inception of the Institution to be elevated to the rank of Fellow, a testament to the depth of his work, thought leadership, and commitment to advancing standards within the built environment both in practice and academia.”
For Eduam, the Fellowship is not merely symbolic.
“For me, this induction places a real responsibility to contribute, to uphold standards and to help shape the future of the profession,” he added.
This ethos is reflected in his leadership at WEL Group, which has earned a reputation for quality delivery, attention to detail, and a deliberate push to modernise professional practice. Under his guidance, the firm is positioning itself as a regional force within West Africa’s built environment space, not just a Ghanaian player.
