Italian oil giant Eni Ghana, in collaboration with its OCTP partners—Vitol Upstream Ghana Ltd (Vitol) and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC)—has handed over several social projects in health, sanitation, education, and economic diversification to local authorities and communities in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region.
The projects include the renovation of the Sanzule/Krisan School Canteen, which will provide meals for over 300 students, improving both their well-being and academic performance. Additionally, four fishing sheds have been constructed for the Bakanta, Ngalekpole, Ngalekyi, and Baku communities, benefiting over 7,000 fishermen, traders, and processors by offering secure spaces for fish processing and storage.
To enhance sanitation and environmental sustainability, five modern household latrines using Bio-Digester Technology have been installed, improving hygiene and public health. Furthermore, 17 community members have been trained, certified, and equipped as Argon Welders, providing them with essential skills and start-up kits to boost employment opportunities.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Eni Ghana’s Managing Director, Maurizio Pinna, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to community development, stating, “these projects underscore Eni and its OCTP partners’ broader mission to enhance livelihoods. By focusing on initiatives that deliver both immediate and long-term benefits, we aim to foster inclusive economic growth and sustainable development within these communities.”
The ceremony was attended by representatives from Eni, Vitol, GNPC, the Petroleum Commission, and traditional leaders from the beneficiary communities.
Eni has been operating in Ghana since 2009, engaging in offshore hydrocarbon exploration and production, with an equity production of approximately 30,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
