The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has firmly denied reports of an aviation fuel shortage in Ghana, assuring airlines and the travelling public that sufficient stock of Aviation Turbine Kerosene (ATK) is available to support all flight operations.
In an official statement released Thursday, the Ministry described recent claims of an ATK shortfall as false and urged the public to ignore any such reports. It emphasized that there is no cause for concern and that supply lines remain intact and active.
“We want to assure the public and all airlines that there is currently no shortage of ATK fuel, and sufficient supplies are available for all aircraft operations,” the statement said.
The ministry further stated; “Recent maintenance on the ATK jetty pipeline was successfully completed to improve long-term fuel security. This crucial work was overdue, and postponing it further would have compromised the safety and reliability of fuel infrastructure.”
According to the Ministry, Ghana recently took delivery of an ATK vessel carrying 11,984 metric tons of jet fuel. So far, 4,583 MT have already been discharged to the Private Warehouse and Storage Limited (PWSL), with the remainder currently being offloaded to the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and Ridge depots via the TOR Jetty. The full discharge is expected to be completed by midday, Friday, July 25.
Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. Richard Gyan-Mensah, has also met with officials from the Ghana Airport Company Limited and downstream petroleum players to ensure seamless coordination and continued fuel supply.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to energy stability and called on stakeholders and the public to disregard alarmist claims of fuel shortages.
