The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is scheduled to interrupt power supply to several communities in the Accra West Region from October 12 to 16, a move that could disrupt business operations, retail activity and household routines as the company undertakes maintenance works.
The planned outages, scheduled for 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily, will affect residential communities, commercial establishments and public facilities across the region.
The exercise comes as businesses that depend on reliable electricity face the need to plan around temporary interruptions to production, customer service and daily operations.
For small businesses, including cold stores, hair salons, food vendors, printing shops and other electricity-dependent enterprises, the outages could require adjustments to operating hours, the use of alternative power sources or temporary reductions in services.
Businesses that rely on generators may also face additional fuel expenses, while operators without backup power could experience interruptions to sales and service delivery.
ECG said the maintenance exercise was intended to improve service delivery. The company apologised to customers in the affected communities for the inconvenience and urged them to make the necessary preparations.
On Monday, October 12, the outage will affect Mile 7 Estates, Caledonia Hotel, Great Gardens, Fountain Gate Church, ECO Block, Franco Estate, Pokuase BSP and Koans Estate, as well as adjoining areas.
On Tuesday, October 13, power supply will be interrupted around Ameriya Last Stop and surrounding communities.
The Wednesday, October 14, exercise will affect Tabora Nos. 3, 4, 5 and 6, Bankyease, Race Course, Alhaji, Kwashiebu, Gbawe Bulemin, Gonse, Joma, Agbozome and CP, alongside nearby areas.
On Thursday, October 15, the affected locations will include Mallam Junction, Weija Gbawe Municipal Hospital, South McCarthy, Sampa Valley, Kokrobite, Oshiyie, Old Bortianor, Old Aplaku, Abease, Achiama, Obeyeyie and Ayikai Doblo, as well as surrounding communities.
The final phase on Friday, October 16, will affect Kotoku, Papase, Chinto, Doblo and Medie, together with nearby areas.
ECG advised customers in the affected communities to take note of the schedule and make the necessary arrangements ahead of the temporary interruptions.
The exercise highlights the importance of planned electricity infrastructure maintenance in supporting reliable power supply, while also underscoring the need for businesses and households to prepare for disruptions that can affect productivity and operating costs.
Customers are encouraged to plan electricity-dependent activities around the announced maintenance periods.
