The Electricity Company of Ghana Limited (ECG) has announced the commencement of a nationwide exercise titled “Operation Keep the Lights On,” which is scheduled to run from Wednesday, January 15, 2025, to Friday, January 31, 2025. This initiative is a strategic move aimed at mobilizing revenue, improving customer compliance, and ensuring efficient service delivery across all ECG operational areas.
As part of the exercise, Operation Keep the Lights On, ECG will focus on customers with outstanding arrears, urging them to settle their debts promptly to avoid disconnections. Additionally, the company will carry out inspections of prepaid meters to verify their integrity and ensure they are functioning properly. ECG is also reminding customers that self-reconnection after disconnection remains a criminal offense and will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
The company has made arrangements for regional and district offices to operate with minimal staff during Operation Keep the Lights On to ensure maximum participation from ECG management and staff. This will also enable the team to focus on essential activities such as meter inspections and debt recovery.
ECG emphasized that the exercise, Operation Keep the Lights On, is backed by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission’s Legislative Instrument (LI 2413), which provides legal access to installations for such operations. Customers and the public are encouraged to cooperate fully with the ECG teams during this period to ensure fairness, transparency, and efficiency.
By conducting this exercise, Operation Keep the Lights On, ECG aims to recover the much-needed revenue to reinvest in the company’s infrastructure. These funds will be directed towards maintaining and improving the power supply, thus ensuring reliable service for all customers.
