The Electoral Commission (EC) has addressed public concerns regarding the alleged lack of ballot statistics ahead of the printing of ballot papers for the upcoming 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.
The EC in a press statement said printing of notices of polls for the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections, however, begins on Friday, 11th October, 2024. The Commission clarified that the printing of ballot papers has not yet commenced and that reports suggesting otherwise are inaccurate.
“As has always been the case, the Commission will provide ballot statistics to the Candidates / Political Parties and all Printing Houses before the printing of ballot papers starts. Printing of ballot papers will only commence after ballot statistics has been provided to all Stakeholders. The Commission will not depart from this practice,” the Commission assured.
In light of the concerns, the EC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a transparent, free, and fair election. The Commission assured all stakeholders, including political parties and the public, that it will provide timely updates on all election-related activities, including the printing of ballot papers.
The EC urged the public to rely on official statements from the Commission regarding the election process and to disregard any misinformation circulating in the media. The EC will continue to engage with stakeholders and provide regular updates to avoid confusion or speculation.
