Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations Minister, Samuel Nartey George, has described MultiChoice Africa’s new offer for Ghanaian DStv subscribers as “unprecedented,” noting it departs sharply from the company’s past marketing tradition.
The new arrangement gives subscribers between 33 percent and 50 percent more value, a move the Minister said was a major concession tailored specifically to the Ghanaian market.
Mr George who was speaking on the DStv pricing saga and matters arising on Point of View on Channel One Television hosted by Ace Broadcaster, Bernardino Avle dismissed claims that the pay-TV operator had previously introduced similar packages.
“I have heard people say that DStv has done this before; that is not correct. That is why during my press briefing, I made it clear that this is unprecedented in DStv’s own marketing models,” he said.
Explaining further, the Minister said earlier promotions by DStv only applied to active subscribers who renewed their packages before expiry, and those offers typically lasted just one month.
“What DStv has normally done is require you to be an active subscriber, renew before your current subscription expires, and then you enjoy the benefit for only one month. What we have achieved with them now is bouquet-agnostic,” he clarified.
Mr George stressed that government remains committed to ensuring fairness and transparency in pay-TV pricing and service delivery, adding that the new package sets an important precedent in consumer protection.
