ChatGPT is now processing 2.5 billion prompts each day, according to figures shared by OpenAI with Axios. Of that volume, roughly 330 million queries originate from users in the United States.
The new data underscores the rapid growth of OpenAI’s flagship product and its expanding global user base. By comparison, Google processes an estimated 13.7 billion to 16.4 billion daily searches, according to data from Neil Patel of NP Digital, SparkToro, and Datos.
Google’s parent company, Alphabet, does not regularly disclose daily search figures but recently reported an annual total of 5 trillion queries.

ChatGPT’s user engagement has more than doubled in under a year. In December, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said the platform was receiving over 1 billion daily queries, a number that has now more than doubled in just eight months.
The growing presence of ChatGPT in daily activities at the workplace is driving both enthusiasm and concern. Some see it as a tool to boost productivity, reduce costs, and democratize access to advanced digital capabilities. Others worry about over-reliance on AI, data privacy risks, and the displacement of certain job functions.
Still, the momentum behind ChatGPT reflects a broader movement toward AI-integrated workflows. As more companies incorporate large language models into daily operations, generative AI is becoming less of an experimental tool and more of a standard feature in digital work environments.
