Bosquet Investments Ltd., the private investment vehicle of Alain Nkontchou, has acquired a 21.22% stake in Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) from Nedbank Group Ltd.
The transaction, still subject to regulatory approval, positions Bosquet Investments as a major shareholder in one of Africa’s leading pan-African banks.
The deal follows Nedbank’s strategic decision to focus on its core markets in Southern and Eastern Africa, where it directly owns and controls operations. Financial advisors Enko Capital Management LLP and Absa Bank Limited facilitated the transaction.
Alain Nkontchou expressed his enthusiasm for the investment, saying, “I am very pleased to have come thus far with the Ecobank Group, and I look forward to supporting the institution in advancing its strategic objectives of growth, transformation and returns.”
His involvement, which spans years of leadership on Ecobank’s board and as chairman, underscores his long-term commitment to the bank’s success.
Ecobank Group CEO Jeremy Awori welcomed Bosquet Investments as a strategic shareholder, noting that the acquisition reflects confidence in the bank’s “Growth, Transformation and Returns strategy, our performance, and our people.”
Awori also praised Nkontchou’s vision and leadership, which have been instrumental in bringing Ecobank to a period of sustained profitability.
With a presence in 35 sub-Saharan African countries as well as France, the UK, UAE, and China, Ecobank serves more than 32 million customers. The bank’s pan-African platform offers a comprehensive suite of financial services, including digital solutions, payments, cash management, trade, and investment services.
Through this acquisition, Bosquet Investments reinforces African-led participation in the continent’s banking sector, bringing not just capital, but strategic guidance and confidence in Ecobank’s long-term growth trajectory.
