The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has reported that Black Stars Head Coach Otto Addo, along with senior technical team members John Paintsil and Fatawu Dauda, survived a serious motor accident on the Tarkwa-Takoradi road on Sunday, September 1, 2024.
The incident occurred as the team was returning from the Champions of Champions clash between Nsoatreman FC and Sarmatex 1996 FC, a pre-season match held in Tarkwa. According to the GFA, the Land Cruiser they were traveling in, with registration number GR 6521-21, narrowly avoided a head-on collision with a pickup truck that had veered into their lane, causing significant damage to their vehicle.

All three team members are in stable condition and will undergo further medical assessments upon their return to Accra to ensure there are no hidden injuries. The GFA expressed confidence that the technical team would be in good shape and ready to lead the Black Stars in the upcoming AFCON qualifiers against Angola on September 5 and Niger on September 9.
“We appreciate the concern shown by the public and ask for your continued support and prayers as we prepare for these important matches,” the GFA stated.
The association remains optimistic that the team will resume intense training on Monday, September 2, 2024, to prepare for the crucial AFCON qualifiers.
