British International Investment (BII) has committed $20 million to the Africa50 Infrastructure Acceleration Fund, joining the fund as its latest limited partner as investors seek to expand financing for infrastructure projects across Africa.
The commitment was announced at the Infra for Africa Forum 2026, where Alain Ebobissé, Group Chief Executive Officer of Africa50, and Leslie Maasdorp, Chief Executive Officer of BII, also signed an agreement to deepen cooperation on infrastructure investment across the continent.
The partnership will focus on co-investment, co-financing and capital mobilisation, with the aim of accelerating the delivery of infrastructure projects. The investment comes as African economies face persistent infrastructure financing needs across energy, transport, water, digital connectivity and other sectors.
The Africa50 Infrastructure Acceleration Fund invests in equity and quasi-equity projects across power, transport and logistics, water and sanitation, digital infrastructure and social infrastructure.
BII’s commitment adds another institutional investor to the fund and is expected to provide additional capital for infrastructure investments across the continent. The broader agreement between BII and Africa50 will allow the two institutions to work together on infrastructure opportunities through co-investment and co-financing.
Africa50’s fund is structured to invest in infrastructure assets and platforms, while the partnership with BII provides a framework for the institutions to collaborate beyond the fund commitment.
The $20 million commitment makes BII the latest limited partner in the Infrastructure Acceleration Fund as the vehicle seeks to scale investment in infrastructure projects across Africa.
