In an inspiring tale of entrepreneurship, David M. Mensah, a mechanical engineering student at Academic City University, has successfully built a thriving bread business, Brodohene, from humble beginnings.
Mensah’s journey began unexpectedly when he realized he had overestimated his bread needs for school. Instead of letting the excess go to waste, he decided to sell it to his classmates. The response was overwhelming, and Brodohene was born.
“I started selling bread on campus, and it quickly gained popularity,” Mensah explained. “I realized there was a demand for quality bread, and I saw an opportunity to fill that gap.”
As Brodohene grew, Mensah expanded his product line by outsourcing to include various flavors, such as coconut, banana, and chocolate bread. His innovative approach and commitment to quality earned him a loyal customer base.

“We’re not just selling bread; we’re creating a culture,” Mensah emphasized. “We want to show students that it’s possible to start a business and grow it into something big.”
Despite facing challenges, including maintaining customer consistency and developing efficient record-keeping systems, Mensah persevered. He collaborated with fellow students, splitting responsibilities to ensure the business’s growth.

Brodohene’s vision is to reach campuses across Ghana and Africa, offering diverse bread types and eventually expanding globally. Mensah aims to create a legacy and inspire students to pursue entrepreneurship.
“We’re looking for partners to help with branding and packaging,” Mensah noted. “Mentorship is also crucial; we welcome advice from experienced entrepreneurs to enhance efficiency.” Mensah’s determination and resilience serve as a testament to the power of innovation and hard work.
