Abigail Kwartekaa Quartey has made history as Ghana’s first-ever female world boxing champion, securing the WIBF Super Bantamweight title. The 28-year-old defeated the UK’s Sangeeta Birdie in a decisive victory at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra.
The bout ended with a unanimous decision from the judges, who scored it 98-91, 97-91, and 98-91 in favor of Quartey. This achievement marks her ninth career win out of 10 bouts, including six knockouts, with just one loss on her record.

Currently ranked first in Ghana and 50th globally among 170 female boxers in her division, Quartey’s historic win cements her as a trailblazer in Ghanaian boxing.
