In a shake-up at the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI) Samuel Basintale Amadu has reinstated 78 interdicted personnel.
A statement issued by the Service said the moved reaffirmed the CGI’s commitment to discipline and due process. The recall is no act of amnesty—those involved will still face internal disciplinary proceedings, and those found culpable will be sanctioned accordingly.
The officers in question include 14 senior officers and 64 other ranks, who were previously interdicted over allegations ranging from recruitment and visa fraud to other misconducts. Speaking at a meeting with the officers at the National Headquarters, CGI Amadu made it clear that his administration will no longer tolerate prolonged disciplinary issues, pledging to ensure swift and fair justice.
“Upholding professionalism and integrity is non-negotiable,” CGI Amadu stressed, cautioning against any recurrence of past misdeeds. He warned that any future cases of fraud, recruitment malpractices, or visa irregularities would be escalated to the Police for criminal investigation.
While the recalled personnel await the outcomes of their disciplinary trials, CGI Amadu noted that promotions for those eligible will be subject to thorough scrutiny. He urged officers to uphold the Service’s image, respect both their superiors and juniors, and conduct themselves professionally wherever they are deployed.
Accompanying the CGI at the meeting were his top deputies, including Mr. Laud Affrifah (Operations and Command Post), Mr. Isaac Owusu Mensah (Finance and Administration), Assistant Commissioner of Immigration Phillip Peter Andoh (Legal Research and Monitoring), and Deputy Commissioner Michael Asare Bediako (Human Resource Department).
