A recent national poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics has revealed that 70% of Ghanaian citizens are optimistic about their lives being improved by next year under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.
This marks a substantial increase from the 22% who held this view a year ago, under the New Patriotic Party administration.
The survey, conducted in February 2025, also showed that 74% of Ghanaians believe the country is now headed in the right direction, a significant shift from November 2024, when only 29% held this view.
During that period, 63% of voters believed the country was on the wrong track. Currently, only 16% still think Ghana is heading in the wrong direction, while 10% remain undecided.
In a positive light, President Mahama’s leadership appears to be a driving force behind this optimism because 84% of respondents approve of his performance since he assumed office, and 90% express satisfaction with his cabinet appointments, with 68% stating they are” very or extremely satisfied.”
This positive response represents a dramatic turnaround from previous years. In October 2022, 77% of Ghanaians believed the country was heading in the wrong direction, a sentiment that persisted into early 2024.
Regionally, the Savannah Region recorded the highest percentage of residents with 92% who believed the country is on the right track.
In contrast, the Ashanti and Eastern Regions had the lowest levels of confidence, with only 59% of voters in each region sharing that sentiment.
Notably, these were the same regions where President John Dramani Mahama lost to his main opponent, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the 2024 presidential elections.
The renewed confidence among Ghanaians as the poll suggests, could mean a strong public endorsement of the current administration’s policies.
